‘Trees’ by Kate Henderson
60 x 80 cm, mixed media, framed
Unable to get to my workshop during the outbreak of the pandemic, I have been spending the time looking after my family and home-schooling my two children.
I still felt the need to be creative and decided to challenge myself by a daily drawing from my garden. As it was early Spring when I began, it was a rare privilege to be able to spend time watching Spring flowers, plants and the trees coming into bloom. I decided to develop some of the tree drawings and made this work which incorporates wool stitched through paper with my handwriting. Within the piece I write about my day; how I am feeling about the boys, my life and so on, an opportunity to off load my feelings into the work! I am looking forward to returning to workshop to see how I can translate these into glass mixed media pieces.
