Artist Statement:

In the post-truth, demagogic environment, society is guided by emotion and prejudice rather than rational thought and fact. Hanna Arendt wrote in The Origins of Totalitarianism in 1951 “The ideal subject of totalitarian rule [are]…people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction… and the distinction between true and false… no longer exist”.

If thoughts are indeed free; truth, it seems, comes at a cost.

Karla Healy is a mature student studying Painting and Printmaking at Glasgow School of Art. Her recent practice has been looking at government communications and the manipulation of society by using ambiguous or confusing terminology and obsfuscation.
