I graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1984 and have been painting, teaching and travelling ever since.

In both my landscape and still life paintings I attempt to create compositions that develop through layers of brushwork, drawing and collage, as they move between abstract and representational marks. Pattern and collage are very important elements, as I incorporate textures and mark making as prominent features.

I have continued to be inspired by the shapes and textures within landscape, buildings and still life compositions but only as a starting point.

I aim to create a delicate compositional balance with the object’s physical shape but also using the negative space between, allowing the drawn mark or brush stroke to dictate what happens next.
