Much of my work is inspired by travel, by moments that catch the eye in a new environment.

Landscapes, buildings, trees, shadows, seascapes and colours arrest my interest.

On location I create and collect source material: sketches, photographs and ephemera.

Back in the studio I develop paintings referring back to this.

My visual memory is strong and I recall the colours and the heat as well as the moment an image caught my attention. Sometimes I include too much information at the start and pare back to essentials as the work progresses.

My still life paintings are of flowers combined with patterns and landscape.
