David M Martin RSW RGI – Solo Exhibition, RGI Kelly Gallery
Saturday 12 March – Closes Saturday, 9 April 2016
Private View Saturday, 12 March 1pm – 4pm
The RGI Kelly Gallery is delighted to host a solo exhibition by David M Martin RSW RGI. The exhibition will feature current and earlier work from one of the RGI’s favourite artists.
David stems from an impressive array of painters to emerge from the Glasgow School of Art in the 1940s. A contemporary of Joan Eardley, Anne Redpath and David Donaldson, David, now 93, continues to pursue his own vision. A vision influenced by many sources; from Scottish east coast artists to Paul Cezanne, Georges Braque and Graham Sutherland to name but a few. A vision also underpinned by strong academic training and sheer talent.
A popular, but never populist artist, his work is a reaction to his subject matter, be it the local landscape or a still life, resulting in a synthesis of form structured into simple shapes, colour and rhythmical lines.
