Liz Knox exhibition at Leiper Gallery

Born in Glasgow, Liz Knox is a graduate of Edinburgh College of Art, however, she is very much considered a Glasgow artist and this new exhibition Stepping Stones is her first ever solo show in her home town.

Stepping Stones charts her artistic journey with paintings covering a wide range of subjects from landscapes in Sutherland, aspects of Amsterdam, to thoughts and gatherings of personal events and objects that have inspired her.

“Stepping Stones don’t necessarily proceed in a straight line, they sometimes change direction and to avoid falling we may have to alter our approach.”

Liz explains, “Sometimes of course we do fall and that forces us to rethink and change direction. Stepping stones are used here as a metaphor for circumstances that affect progress towards a goal.”

The title of the exhibition is taken from the painting “Stepping Stone”, a work that evolved from a detail in a drawing of a roadside burn on Skye.

Over her career, Knox has been the recipient of many awards including the Aspect Prize in 2003, The Bessie Scott Award, The UWS Painting Award and The Concept Gallery Fine Art Award to name only a few. She was elected President of Paisley Art Institute from 2007 – 2010 and has been an elected member of Council of the Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts since 2010. Her paintings are held in many prestigious collections worldwide and she is much in demand to exhibit as well as to lecture and give masterclasses.

Stepping Stones is taking place in the new Leiper Fine Art Gallery at 117 West George Street in Glasgow from Friday 3rd October – Sunday 2nd November. Tel 0141 204 2372  email info@leiperfineart.com  contacts are Ewan Kennedy and Niall Campbell.
