12 noon until 5pm Saturday 2nd June
Glasgow is as much a mosaic of districts, quarters and urban villages as it is Scotland’s largest city. With its network of shops, galleries and The Glasgow School of Art itself, the area around the Blythswood Square gardens is the city’s traditional cultural quarter.
During the Jubilee weekend, from 12 noon – 5pm on Saturday 2 June, local galleries and arts’ organisations are teaming up to host an Off The Square event with activities from live tango dancing and corset making to a collage treasure hunt.
Members of the public will receive a warm welcome from participating businesses that include the Blythswood Hotel, scotlandart.com, auction house Lyon & Turnbull, John Green Fine Art, the RGI Kelly Gallery, The Glasgow School of Art, Cyril Gerber Fine Art, ARTeries, Ramilia’s Hair & Make Up Lounge, and corset maker Honoria Dedlock.
One of the highlights promises to be an ‘elastic tango’ performance by Stanislav and his partner Natasha, at several of the Off The Square venues throughout the day.
With exhibitions in the galleries, auction house treasures, afternoon teas, what better way to spend a Saturday afternoon… Be there and be Off The Square.
